About Us In the spring of 2005, a few Crewe Alexandra supporters got together with a view to setting up an active supporters’ association which could act as an effective voice for fellow fans and as a conduit between the supporters and the club. Those early conversations in pubs, emails and phone calls culminated in two fans’ meetings that were held at the Alexandra Suite, attended by many of the current membership base. A decision to form a fresh, new group, with its own constitution, committee and core aims resulted in Crewe ASi, the Crewe Alexandra Supporters’ initiative. We were also clear that the link with the railways, the club is after all affectionately known as "The Railwaymen!" should be re-established with the group’s logo and we did that by using an old British Rail logo as the basis for our badge.
As a group we have three specific aims; To Unite and Galvanise Support By creating a group of vibrant, enthusiastic and motivated Crewe Alexandra fans with a positive attitude and a desire to help Crewe Alexandra Football Club overcome its current and future challenges. To Maximise Revenue Through assisting the club to increase revenue by promoting the best club initiatives to the existing fan base, working with the club to improve the quality of the match-day experience, and exploring opportunities to extend the range the range of products and services provided by the club. To Enhance Communications By creating a regular two-way communication channel between supporters and club management in order to increase the sense of involvement, influence, partnership and belonging amongst fans. Looking back over the last few years, we think we have gone a considerable way towards the achievement of our objectives. Among our notable successes are the installation of the big screen in the Alexandra Suite, the introduction of banded prices for 17-19 year olds, influencing local "promotions," hosting and securing regular fans forums, and enjoying a fairly unique relationship in football, direct and unfettered access to the Chairman and Directors. One of our “objects” as an organisation is to promote and foster general goodwill between Crewe Alexandra FC and its supporters, on the one hand, and the local community, on the other. We do this by actively supporting local charities. To date we have raised over £5,000 for local and national charities, including Leighton Hospital's NeoNatal Unit, Geoff Thomas’ Leukaemia charitable appeal, The Wingate Centre, The Railway Children, MacMillan Cancer Unit, Leighton Hospital, and Hope House Children's Hospice. We recently selected The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts to benefit from this season's efforts, including our forthcoming Football Tournament & Family Fun Day. We principally raise money for our chosen charity though our major social events; a children party at Christmas, a "Race Night" in the Spring, and our Football and Cricket Tournaments in the summer.
We are also keen to encourage support for the Alex at away games, and in association with Sandbach Travelling Alex we organise coach travel at affordable prices. Based on numbers, we run either a 53 seater executive coach (or two), a 24 seater mini-coach, or in extreme cases, a self-drive 17 seater mini-bus!
As soon as the Crewe Alexandra Supporters’ initiative (Crewe ASi) was founded in 2005, we joined the Football Supporters’ Federation and we have always endeavoured to play an active role in the life of the FSF, not content simply to be members. We are working with the FSF on a number of campaigns to benefit all supporters and we proudly hosted the FSF's Fans’ Parliament at the Alexandra Stadium in June 2007.
One of our key aims is to create a regular two-way communication channel between the supporters and the football club. We have an active internet presence, http://www.creweasi.org.uk. We also send regular direct e-mails and newsletters detailing our dealings with the football club, we can be contacted on our group mobile, and have a dedicated "page" in the Match Day programme. Which, despite the club having editorial control, is almost always published "as is!" Even when critical or less than favourable towards the club. We also enjoy excellent and personal relationships with the all of the local media, written and broadcast.
