Fan's Views - Macclesfield Town, Johnstone Paints Trophy (1),

Tuesday 2nd September 2008, Alexandra Stadium

The FA cup is full of history, as we nervously await the first round draw to see if we have to play one team you've never heard of from a place that you've never visited, which might eventually lead to a plum 3rd round draw, The Carling Cup has once again demonstrated the opportunities of playing Premiership football, but the JPT means nothing???  Well actually it does mean something, as we all remember the devastating effect of Doncaster snatching victory from the jaws of defeat depriving us of a trip to the Millennium Stadium.  Wembley awaits the Northern Section winner, and this is our one true chance of getting there this season.  So although we didn't put out a full strength team, we really wanted to win this game, and after 15 minutes or so the game was won, as we were 1-0 up and the lads from Macc were down to 10 men.  3-0 up at half time and Elding is looking fitter, and although Popey has worked hard, pleased to see Zola as his strike partner.   A very poor second half probably due to the game being over as a contest and Alex players having a look over their shoulder in case another lumbering, late tackle was on its way.

Only just recovered from a 48 hour hangover after Hereford (failed to send in my views for this game as quite frankly I can recall very little) but it was with a spring in my step that I ventured to Gresty Road tonight.  Due to my wife's work commitments I was forced to take my 9 year old daughter, who just wouldn't believe it was one last summer holiday treat for her prior to starting back to school tomorrow.  Things went well in the first half, with Crewe easing to a 3-0 lead.  Elding and Pope gelled really well, and good to see goals being shared about with all 3 goals either resulting directly from a corner or secondary possession from a corner.  The second half was a task of endurance and after 6 weeks of my daughter moaning when being told to go to bed, at precisely 08:30, with 15 minutes left, she insisted that we should go home as she had to be up for school and needed to get to bed.

Leeds will be different on Saturday especially without Occy, and think we should bring in Rix and Schumacher and play with one wide man - Grant if fit.
