Average first half performance, much improved in the second. Michael O'Connor deservedly won MOTM and from now on we need results. Hopefully this is the start of better things.

Great result, a big improvement on last week. Occy marked his return to the team with a fortunate goal and a cracking leadership performance. Elding and Zola need to improve but we are scoring goals from all over the team, and at last we kept a clean sheet in the league.

What an easy job this management lark is. Your central defence partnership remember how to defend, your international midfielder returns and puts in a match winning display, and even when you make an unpopular substitution when taking Elding off, on comes the sub to nod home the crucial second goal. 3 points in the bag.

Have to admit this was the first time I'd seen them this season and straight away I realised I was not the only one who had lost a bit of interest, as the attendance was woeful, especially as it was boosted by a number of kids on comps behind the goal, received for attending a football coaching course (my lad was one of them, hence me being there).
Steve Collis in goal looks a good shot stopper, but was perhaps a bit over keen to come for some balls which he didn't have a chance of getting. I heard Baudet was slow and sluggish this season. Not so today as both him and O'Donnell played really well working hard to keep a clean sheet. Joel Grant maybe a luxury we cannot afford to have in some games, as he showed flashes of brilliance only to disappear for the next 10 minutes. Up front was Bambi on Ice - Calvin Zola, who never stopped working, and although awkward at times, did cause the Colchester defence some trouble. And there's the legend in his own mind - Anthony Elding, who was clearly unhappy about being subbed only for him to be overshadowed by Tom Pope who soon after coming on, made it 2-0. I'm sure Steve Holland had a wry smile to himself as Elding sulked at the far end of the pitch. Have already bought some tickets for the Southend game, and now that I've changed my working days, hope to be a regular.
