Hoping for a little bit more

The Football Club have published the prices of the season tickets for the 2008/2009 campaign.  They are frozen.  No increase on the prices for the 2007/2008 season.

We have to say that we are very pleased to see that the prices have not gone up and the club is to be commended for resisting what must be an irresistible temptation to do otherwise.

Nevertheless, we had been hoping for a little more.  After a season in which we managed, miraculously, to snatch survival from the jaws of oblivion, we had hoped that the football club might do something to seduce the apparently growing number of those who will decide not to buy a season tickets this summer – an ‘early bird’ deal?  Buy two, get one of them reduced?  An ‘all games’ season ticket?

However, we shall continue to explore, in discussion with the club, ways of making it easier for those who want to be Alex supporters to be what they want to be; ways of persuading the kids to put Mornflake Oats on their chest before AIG, Samsung, Fly Emirates, Carlsberg or Chang Beer.

In the meantime, we would still ask that those of you who have any vestige of the Alex running through your veins continue to take your place in the ranks formed up behind the colours.  Our oath of fealty was made not to John Bowler or Norman Hassall; we didn’t place our arms at the feet of Dario Gradi, Steve Holland or Neil Baker.  Our vow of allegiance was to Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

Remember … the badge on the retro Alex shirt carries the motto ‘semper contendo’ – I shall always fight
