Joel Grant put in two impressive performances on Tuesday night! Ahead of playing his part in an excellent win over Championship side Barnsley in the Carling Cup. Joel presented a cheque to Hope House Children's Hospices for £1,000 on behalf of Crewe ASi. Joel is pictured with ASi Committee Member Hilary Robinson, and Hope House' Fundraiser for Cheshire, Virginia McFarlane.
‘We are so appreciative of the support from Crewe ASi." said Virginia. "It costs £600 for one day’s care at the hospice for one child or £500 is the cost of bereavement support for one family for one week. In total we need £3.5 million a year to maintain the running of the hospices in Oswestry and Conwy, plus our outreach services, to be able to support local families in the heart-breaking situation of caring for a child with a terminal illness.’
Hope House Children’s Hospices have two hospices, one in Oswestry, Shropshire and the other in Conwy, North Wales. They both provide respite care, post bereavement support and external referrals for bereavement support. The two hospices are currently supporting 347 children and their families, some of whom live locally in Crewe, Nantwich and surrounding villages.
One of Crewe ASi's “objects” as an organisation is to promote and foster general goodwill between Crewe Alexandra FC and its supporters, on the one hand, and the local community, on the other. We do this by actively supporting local charities. To date we have raised over £5,000 for local and national charities, including Leighton Hospital's NeoNatal Unit, Geoff Thomas’ Leukaemia charitable appeal, The Wingate Centre, The Railway Children, MacMillan Cancer Unit, Leighton Hospital, and Hope House Children's Hospices. We recently selected The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport & Arts to benefit from this season's efforts.
The money for Hope House was raised at the Children's Christmas Party and Night at the Races - annual events that this season will be held on 21st December 2008 and 27th March 2009 respectively. Do make a note in your diaries.
