The Fans View- Crewe Alexandra Vs Brighton and Hove Albion Saturday August 9th 2008 The Alexandra Stadium
I didn't go to any of the friendlies, and the last time I saw them was against Oldham. I was expecting better things but nothing has changed. Defence was poor, midfield was weak and forward line never at the race. Woodards was the best player on the pitch for the Alex, whereas our supposed defence rock, was far from it as he failed to win any telling headers and the Brighton attack ran him ragged.

Oh dear Oh dear. Pitiful. Midfield including Bailey, Rix and Grant just not good enough. Men against boys and we were lucky to only lose by one goal. Zola took his goal well, and just maybe, if he had taken his headed chance early doors the game may have been different.
Russ Edwards, Crewe
Brighton looked a good team. Just missed out on the play offs and on this performance they should be up there again - or was it just that we were poor? James Bailey went from hero to zero, Inexperience showed with O'Connor having a stinker.

Not the greatest of starts by any stretch of the imagination but to snatch an undeserved point would have made up for the poor display. However Mr Baudet had other ideas once again he was abysmal, I've never been a Baudet fan and am at a total loss as to why he is the leader of our team? He is as inspirational as a wet fish. His incompetent defending was once again highlighted today on numerous occasions all be it against two good forwards. Baudet has cost us dearly far too many times over the last few seasons and after todays defensive display it only reafirms my fears that 'going with what we've got' in defence will certainly not be good enough this season. On a positive note I thought that Elding's introduction seemed to spur the team on and I was very impressed with the impact he had and a very well taken goal by Calvin Zola.
J.Baker, Wistaston.
Don't get too disheartened, I think they'll be top 5.Collis looked good, nothing on the goals at all, but came for a few long free kicks with authority, good to see.
Defence, believed that Woodards did well against the full back, Billy didn't do so well. Baudet got turned for the second goal, but he was left 1-on-1, Mcready didn;t do enough for me today.
Occy did the usual running around and trying to play, Bailey was my man of the match, did vey well in the cleaning up role, but tired when needed, this is his first game, I think he'll be good in a few games. Grant, great when he was attacking, but feels like playing 3 in midfield when we defend. Rix......did well defending few tackles, but doesn't give enough forward to justify the liability backwards.
Zola, 1 shot and one goal, but didn't really challenge enough for a big guy for me. Miller was out of it, Elding is not match fit.
Major problem, humping it to zola too quick when we have players that can thread a good ball through. Not discouraged, new team
