Are football supporters discriminated against? Every day the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) hears from fans telling them that they’re sick of being treated like criminals by over-zealous police, tired of taking orders from doormen dressed up as ‘stewards’, and had enough with clubs forcing them to sit down when they’d rather stand. Is this now a typical matchday experience? In order to gauge opinion from all sides the FSF organised a Question Time style event in London on Thursday 4th March. With a panel consisting of representatives from all sides of the argument. The panel was bombarded by incisive and coherent questions from the floor, and a full review of the event by Michael Brunskill can be found on the FSF's website. Simply follow this link;
On their web site, and in their newsletter, The FSF also reflect upon the winding up of Chester City and Farsley Celtic in the High court. There have now been, at the last count, 54 ‘insolvency events’ since the formation of the Premier League in 1992 in the top four divisions alone. This can’t go on - even outgoing Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney has called for a salary cap, claiming the business model of professional football doesn't work! As for Crewe Alexandra Football Club Company's business model, shareholders can have their say at Thursday's AGM.
As previously highlighted, our own AGM will held on Monday evening, 22nd March. However, do note a change of venue; The Hops Cafe Bar, on Prince Albert Street. The meeting starts at 7-30pm prompt, and we'd love to see you there.
The visit of Notts County, arguably the biggest draw in the division, with the away end sold out, the director's box "sold out" and numberous fans taking in their "game a season," should make for an excellent atmosphere at Gresty Road. Incidentally, would you care to hazard to a guess as who is the second most attractive draw in the league?
Can we recommend you start sampling the atmosphere in the Alexandra Suite ahead of kick-off? Once again, and for every home game for the rest of the season, beer prices have been cut in the Suite ahead of the game, and furthermore, you can watch the lunchtime Sky game on the big screen. Today it's Aston villa vs Wolves. Could be tasty!
What is tasty is the club's World Cup specials in the Alexandra Suite, when they will be showing England games on the big screen and serving "free" beer and food for just £20. Bargain!!
For a few pounds more, just £25, you can join us for our End of Season Party, we won't have David Beckham, unfortunately, neither will England! But for your money, there's a disco, food and live band. We'll also be unveilling our Player of the Season and the event kicks-off in The Carlsberg Lounge on the evening of the Accrington Stanley game, 24th April.
Tickets for both events can be obtained from the Alex' ticket office.
