Introducing CLIMB...
The more observant among you will have noticed a new logo adorning every page of the website. One of our “objects” as an organisation is to promote and foster general goodwill between Crewe Alexandra FC and its supporters, on the one hand, and the local community, on the other. We do this by actively supporting local charities. To date we have raised over £5,000 for local and national charities, including Leighton Hospital's NeoNatal Unit, Geoff Thomas’ Leukaemia charitable appeal, The Wingate Centre, The Railway Children, MacMillan Cancer Unit, Leighton Hospital, and Hope House Children's Hospice.
Later this month we will be presenting a cheque for £1,250 to last season's benificiary, The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts, which will go towards the costs of participating in this year's UK Special Olympic games in Leicester. The national Games will be the largest disability games to be held in the UK during 2009, and the Academy will be sending teams in Boccia, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and wheelchair rhythmic gymnastics. At the last games in Glasgow in 2005 they accrued a fantastic total of 40 gold, 26 silver and 15 bronze medals. Let's hope they're as successful at this year's games which take place between the 25th and 31st July.
Based in Crewe, CLIMB is a national organisation working on behalf of children, young people and families affected by metabolic disease. The demand for their services continues to grow. Many children who at one time would have been undiagnosed are now known to have been suffering from a metabolic disease. As medical science and knowledge advances, this trend is likely to continue - there will be more families needing their support, more children relying upon them to help find cures. For further information visit their website.
We principally raise money for our chosen charity though our major social events the next of which, our annual Football Tournament and Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday 12th July at Wrenbury Sports and Social Club. Additional details will be posted in due course.
