Fan's Forum, 2010
Tuesday night saw the first Fan’s Forum for over a
year. John Bowler, tongue in cheek, readily admitted that it was long overdue,
but they were waiting for results to improve! Ironically, following the March
2008 Forum, which was also preceded with improved performances, the team didn’t
win a game and were subsequently relegated!
An excellent summary of the night has been posted on
the official web site, with key points highlighted. Notwithstanding, additional
topics were discussed, including concerns regarding fans safety at the
forthcoming Port Vale game. Protection is in place for the team bus, and Dario
would be surprised if fans are not afforded similar protection. Notwithstanding
, the club are to approach Port Vale to determine what safety measures have
been put in place.
The company restructuring is proceeding, but these
things take time, and once all the legal aspects have been resolved, Mr Bowler
will brief shareholders, possibly by the end of the year.
The promotion of individual games was also discussed,
in particular the possibly of a “Next Fixture” board on Gresty Road, more of a
presence in the town centre and additional advertising on billboards or
similar. Key to the clubs approach to marketing, is the Return of Investment,
and whilst all or most of these ideas have been considered/costed, it is felt
the most effective marketing strategy is the interaction between the Soccer
Centre and local schools, significant numbers of vouchers are provided to the
schools for use by pupils and parents, and this is resulting in improved
numbers in the Family Stand, and hopefully inspiring the youngsters and their
parents to become full time fans.
The subject of “Three Captains” was raised and whilst
there isn’t a “Captain” parse, Lee Bell
is responsible for organising the free kicks, and David Artell the defence,
consequently both take it in turns to “toss the coin” with Ashley Westwood
included to improve his football education and develop his leadership
skills. However, should it fall upon
someone to lift a trophy! David Artell is the biggest!
The same players are the nominated penalty takers, well
Belly and Westy are! However, David Artell also believes he has something to
offer on that score! Consequently, don’t be surprised if he actually takes the
next one! Incidentally, we do practice them!
Although not as animated, or indeed hostile as previous
forums, this event was long overdue, and most welcomed, consequently the ASi
would like to thank Mr Bowler, Dario, David Rowlinson and Jim McMillan for
their participation, candour and openness on the night and we look forward to
further discussions post match and formally in due course.
