Player of the Season - 2010/2011
This opening paragraph could be a "cut and paste" from last year's End of Season Party report. However, we sha'n't dwell on what might have been, but revel in what was an excellent night for all involved. Especially this year's Player of the Season, Clayton Donaldson. As well as securing the ASi award, Clayton was also The Sandbach Traveling Alex award winner. Battling it out with Ryan Lowe for League Two's Golden Boot, at 27, Clayton was deemed to "old" to be considered on the Young Player of the Season poll. This particular award going to Matt Tootle.
Our very own "Golden Boot" but for Goal of the Season, not top scorer was collected by AJ Leitch-Smith, who finished off an excellent team goal in the 7-0 thrashing of Barnet back in August! Finally this year's President's Award was presented to John Ford.
Things got underway at 7-30 prompt with guests and participants enjoying a two-course hot buffet. Appetites sated, we had our funny bones tickled by comedian Jamie Sutherland, before Master of Ceremonies, Radio Stoke's Graham McGarry oversaw the awards. Event sponsor's 6box' Nick Morgan presenting Clayton Donaldson with his prize. Music and dancing followed with Tourguide providing the live music and Sounds, the disco!
A special mention to Paul Gilligan, who having followed the Alex from afar for 40 years, attended both his first game and the awards evening with his son, also Paul.
